AI Helps Create Content Faster
Let’s face it, writing, even for those of us to whom it comes easily, is time-consuming. Writing a 1000-word blog post like this—from conception to publication—can take 3-4 hours.
You might think shorter writing takes less time, but that often isn’t the case. Every word counts when trying to be succinct, which often makes it more difficult—especially when said writing is trying to accomplish something important, like, for example, netting your next superstar employee.
Job description writing is notoriously challenging, and even though the best job descriptions are brief (300-600 word descriptions perform best), they are still time-consuming. We were curious exactly how long it took our customers, so we surveyed them and found that nearly 60% of recruiters and hiring managers say they spend an hour or more writing quality job descriptions. 57% of respondents say it takes over an hour to write a job description—31% of respondents say it takes them one to two hours, and 26% report taking more than 2 hours (26% say it still takes them between a half hour and an hour). We’ve long been hoping for a tool to expedite that, and our wish was granted this fall when OpenAI’s new technology entered the world.
You’ve undoubtedly heard of ChatGPT, the much-buzzed-about AI content-writing tool dominating headlines. When the team here at HiringThing first heard about ChatGPT, the general consensus was excitement—we’re a group of tech junkies who are always excited about new innovations. This was followed by: how can we integrate the OpenAI technology that powers ChatGPT into our product to help further spread the Hiring Happiness® that is at the root of our mission and make hiring faster and easier? Knowing that job description writing is a significant client pain point, we set to experimenting. We asked the AI to “Write a job description for an account manager.” Here’s what we were delivered less than a minute later.
It’s good. And writing and editing that from scratch would take me, a professional content writer, a minimum of a half hour (and probably longer, if I’m being honest). We then played around with a more complex ask. “Write a job description for a front-desk position at a massage therapy franchise who is passionate about making people feel their best, professional, organized, empathetic, and open to growing with a growing company.”
This one took a bit longer…at approximately one minute and 50 seconds.
How exciting is this! High-quality, dynamic job descriptions that typically take up time and resources, delivered in just minutes! It should be no surprise, then, that the team here has leveraged OpenAI’s technology to create and integrate AI-Enabled Job Descriptions into the HiringThing platform.
HiringThing Launches AI-Enabled Job Descriptions
HiringThing’s new AI-Enabled Job Descriptions utilizes OpenAI’s GPT-3 technology that powers the much-buzzed-about ChatGPT AI technology to write dynamic, professional job descriptions in just minutes. It jumpstarts the writing process while removing the need to scour the internet for job description templates or copy/paste from past postings.
AI-Enabled Job Descriptions will create job descriptions directly through the HiringThing applicant tracking system. Once written, users can adjust the description to highlight unique aspects of their company and position, then immediately post the job to start attracting applicants.
“When the technology exemplified by OpenAI’s ChatGPT launched late last year, we immediately started brainstorming how to integrate it into our product to help speed up hiring for our clients,” said HiringThing Product Director Colette Luke. “Speed is the name of the game in today’s competitive hiring landscape—we wanted to see where we could plug in this technology to help our users best.”
HiringThing Founder and CEO Joshua Siler feels strongly about embracing the positive benefits of AI technology. “AI is the future of work,” said Siler, “Any technology that can help further streamline and strengthen hiring is a no-brainer. It’s part of our DNA here at HiringThing to embrace technological advances and think outside the box. We look forward to continuing to innovate and use new technology to support our team and customers.”
AI Can Help Fill Your Open Positions
According to Salesforce’s State of Marketing Study, marketers’ use of AI for content creation jumped incrementally between 2018 to 2022, from 29% to 84%. Marketers—those who create written content for a living—started adopting AI because it jumpstarts projects and saves them time, allowing them to spend more time on tasks that require more strategy.
Those in the hiring space are beginning to do the same. SHRM reports that 88% of businesses worldwide are already using AI in some capacity for hiring. Automating writing job descriptions to AI allows hiring managers to spend more time refining their recruiting strategies, publicizing their open posts, working on employer brand, and ensuring an excellent candidate experience. 70% of employers take over 30 days to make a hire, which costs businesses time and money.
We’re all about embracing AI here at HiringThing. We’re excited to launch this product and see it help our customers and, dare we say—waiting with bated breath—for AI’s next significant advancement.
