HiringThing Wants to Keep Your Hiring Human at PrismHR LIVE!
As Always, Technology Continues Evolving at a Rapid Pace
Generative AI—such as the much-discussed ChatGPT—had a big moment this past spring. In just two months, ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly active users, and it’s forecasted to have significant implications for the world of work. Gartner found that by 2025 30% of all outbound marketing from large organizations and 90% of materials in those all-important quarterly reports will be artificially generated.
Advances in AI are exciting, poised to automate many repetitive tasks, allowing us to spend more time on creative, productive tasks and initiatives.
It's More Important Than Ever to Keep Hiring Human
While AI advances are moving faster than ever, HR has been utilizing it on a mass scale for some time now. According to Oracle’s AI in Human Resources Report, 50% of employees already utilize AI in some capacity, and 88% of businesses worldwide already use AI in some capacity for HR tasks.
As technology evolves and advances, it could be easy for artificial intelligence to have too big a hand in some very human decisions. We want to emphasize that people control technology, so knowing how to operate it and keep people-oriented tasks like hiring innately human in conjunction with technology is entirely on us.
In honor of our excitement in attending—and presenting at (more details on that below)—this year’s PrismHR LIVE in Austin, TX, and in the spirit of this year’s theme, Better Together: Raising the Bar, this post will be dedicated to:
- Working together with technology to keep hiring innately human.
- Leveraging that partnership to raise the bar and make recruiting more productive.
- Ensuring that you’re an HR AI expert who can help your clients navigate this new frontier.
Here at HiringThing, we utilize ChatGPT to help us outline the content and have employed the technology that powers it to launch our AI-Enabled Job Descriptions. However, AI did not help in writing this particular blog at all. When it comes to specific experiences and events—like our personal experiences at PrismHR LIVE and partner experience with PrismHR, there’s no substitute for actual human experience.
How AI is Being Used in Recruiting
After Open AI’s ChatGPT took the world by storm, and now, there are 100s of AI recruiting tools. Some examples of AI-driven recruiting tools include personalized job recommendations and content, intelligent search, chatbots, automated interview scheduling, video assessments, fit and engagement scoring, and candidate discovery (and by the time you read this, those functionalities will probably have doubled!).
AI Revolutionizing Hiring
It’s important to know what parts of the hiring process are affected by AI. Generally, AI affects hiring positively, making it faster, more efficient, and more objective.
- Quickness is the name of the game in today’s competitive hiring landscape. AI is streamlining hiring and allowing companies to send top candidates job offers faster than competitors who aren’t using AI.
- AI is being used to identify top candidates by predicting job performance.
- AI is also helping standardize the hiring process, in this case, taking out the one human element that often impedes the hiring process: bias. It assists companies in identifying bias and hiring objectively.
Compliance & Legal Implications of AI in Recruiting
Understanding the compliance issues and legal implications AI may have on hiring is also essential.
- On April 1, Italy became the first Western nation to ban further development of ChatGPT over privacy concerns.
- The European Union’s EU AI Act also aims to address issues surrounding automated hiring software.
- New York’s Local Law 144 goes into effect on April 15. Employers will be required to notify candidates when they are using AI in hiring. It’s the first piece of U.S. legislation regarding the use of AI in hiring.
- States, including California, Maryland, and Washington, have enacted or are considering legislation to put rules around using AI for talent acquisition.
How to Foster Meaningful AI Engagement for Your Clients
One of the strongest ways to ensure technology doesn’t eradicate humanity from the hiring process is not to treat it as a replacement for people but as a collaborative partner that makes the hiring team stronger. We love this passage from a Harvard Business Review article titled AI Should Augment Human Intelligence, Not Replace It:
The question of whether AI will replace human workers assumes that AI and humans have the same qualities and abilities — but, in reality, they don’t. AI-based machines are fast, more accurate, and consistently rational, but they aren’t intuitive, emotional, or culturally sensitive. And, it’s exactly these abilities that humans possess and make us effective.
As the article's title suggests, AI should augment our experience, not replace it. The article goes on to say:
An essential element of a truly intelligent type of future of work, however, means that we do expand the workforce where both humans and machine will be part of, but with the aim to improve humanity and well-being while also being more efficient in the execution of our jobs.
It argues that technology is a partner and collaborator, allowing people to spend more time doing and strengthening things only people can do.
The HRO's Role
Your role as your clients’ HR expert is demonstrating a commitment to staying current with HR trends and helping your clients successfully navigate them. In terms of HR AI, that means educating clients on how to continually humanize the hiring process, and humanizing said tech for clients who may be intimidated.
Our CEO—and bonafide AI enthusiast—Joshua Siler, and Director of Partner Success, Noël Phillips, will be on hand at PrismHR LIVE to help you navigate this role in a meaningful way.
HiringThing is Excited to Share Additional Insights Into Keeping the Humanity in Hiring at This Year's Prism HR LIVE
